THIS IS A TEMPORARY FULL TIME INSTRUCTOR POSITION

COMPENSATION:

Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS - Comprehensive benefit package which includes:

• District paid HMO medical, dental and vision insurance for the employee and dependents.

• District paid $50,000 life insurance policy for the employee.

• Participation in CalSTRS Teachers Retirement System.

Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Teaching courses in music, including but not limited to music fundamentals, music appreciation (introduction to music), music history (jazz/rock).

• Directing ensembles with instrumental emphasis, including but not limited to orchestra (College orchestra) string choir (Preludium Strings) and beginning strings.

• Collaborating with ensemble conductors and other school of music faculty.

• Recruiting students for the program and pursuing ensemble outreach opportunities.

• Participating in program and curriculum development.

• Teaching scheduled classes and performing related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities.

• Complying with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties.

• Participating in staff development activities.

• Serving on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program.

• Demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.

• Promoting the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.

• Maintaining a visible presence on campus in order to be available to regularly and actively participate in department meetings and other activities.

• Providing critical feedback on all assignments.

• Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in music OR bachelor's in music AND master's in humanities OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least two (2) years teaching or conducting in a higher education environment

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
